Job Seeker Frequently Asked Questions

How does the process work of using a staffing agency as a job seeker?

As a staffing and placement firm, we work with employers to source and recruit candidates for their open positions and vacancies. Our staffing services are complimentary to candidates and the employers or clients are the ones paying a fee for our services.

The typical process for a first-time candidate is an online application to an open position on our website, Then, our recruiters sort through resumes based on the qualifications and requirements of the employer client to find the best match for the position. Should your skills and employment requirements match the open position, the recruiter assigned to the position will reach out to you personally to proceed to the next step which is typically an interview at our nearest office location or by phone call. We will also initiate pre-screening paperwork which includes a background check and a drug screen if required by the employer.

Once the pre-screening has been completed, your resume would be presented to the client and from there, the client will provide feedback as to what the next steps would be. Generally, the hiring manager of the position would confirm with us to schedule an interview or they would let us know that they would like to explore other candidates.

Our job as a staffing firm is to help get your resume in front of the right people to help get your foot in the door faster than a typical online application process. We work hard to try to place as many candidates as possible, but we do recommend continuing your job search efforts on your own in addition to utilizing our free services. Our ability to place candidates is determined on the types of open positions we currently have available.

How long is the process/how long until you think you will find me a job?

This answer is determined by the types of positions currently available and if your skills and qualifications match those required by the employer. Temporary assignments can be filled in as little as 24 hours from the time we receive the job order, but long-term professional or direct-hire positions can take much longer, depending on the client’s requirements.

How much do your services me cost as a job seeker?

Our placement services are free to job seekers. You will never be charged a fee. The client employers pay a fee for our services to source and recruit talented employees.

How do I apply? Do you have any jobs available?

The best way to apply is through our online job board. Our job board is constantly updated with available opportunities. You would filter through the open positions based on your experience and type of jobs in your area you are looking for. If you have looked through the open positions on our job board and didn’t see an open position that matches what you are looking for, check back periodically to see what new positions we have posted each day. You can also sign up for job alerts that will notify you when we have posted positions that match your search criteria.

What types of positions do you place?

Our staffing firm places direct hire, temporary, and temp-to-hire positions in many different skill specializations. Our skill specializations include Accounting & Finance, Administrative, Convention & Event Support, Engineering, Healthcare, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Light Industrial & Manufacturing, Real Estate, Sales & Marketing, Supply Chain, and Customer Service / Call Center. Visit our job seeker page to learn more!

Can I come in today and talk to a recruiter?

Our recruiters work around the clock sourcing and placing candidates with open positions. Their days are usually booked with scheduled interviews and therefore, are not always available to accommodate walk-in applicants. You are always welcome to stop by the nearest Burnett location to drop off your resume, but the best way to register with us is by applying to open positions on our website. While we try our best to reach out to every applicant, we are not always able to respond to everyone due to sometimes overwhelming responses to open positions.

I’ve been placed on a temporary or temp-to-hire assignment, when do I get paid?

Once your new hire paperwork has been completed, you will be paid weekly through direct deposit into your checking or savings account. Don’t have a personal checking or savings account? You can also use your own Pay Card that has portability, meaning it can be loaded via ACH by us and others. Or, we can issue you a Global Cash Paycard. View our Burnett Benefits page to learn more.

I have applied to open positions online, but I haven’t heard back about my application. When can I expect someone to reach out to me?

Our recruiters’ top priority is helping our candidates find positions and helping our clients fill their openings with the most qualified people. This means they focus their time on interviewing new applicants, performing new hire screening for the applicants we have interviewed, and reaching out to companies to try to match applicants with openings. As soon as a recruiter has a match that fits a candidate’s skillset, they will do their best to contact the candidate ASAP. The best scenario is that our recruiters can quickly connect our candidates to our clients, but this process can take time. If you have not heard from your recruiter, it is not because they are ignoring you. The recruiters work diligently behind the scenes to help candidates find a job. Our company prides itself on helping careers and companies grow and we are one of the top recruiting firms because we love what we do and strive to place our candidates and help our clients fill their open positions.

Do you withhold taxes from my paycheck as a temporary or temp-to-hire employee?

Yes, we issue a W4 at the end of each year.
